A&P Mechanic – Inspection Authorization (IA)

Angelo Precision Aircraft is seeking an experienced A&P Mechanic with a current Inspection Authorization (IA) to join our growing maintenance team in San Angelo, Texas.

Angelo Precision Aircraft has served the general aviation community since 1977. We are an established FAA Part 145 Repair Station with a long-standing reputation for quality workmanship, integrity, and professional aircraft maintenance.

Our customer base continues to grow, and we are looking for an experienced IA technician who can work independently, troubleshoot complex aircraft issues, perform and approve inspections, and help support other technicians in the shop.

This is an experienced-level position. Applicants must have hands-on maintenance experience with small general aviation aircraft and reciprocating engines.

Aircraft & Work Experience

Our shop supports a wide variety of general aviation aircraft, including:

• Cessna piston aircraft
• Piper aircraft
• Beechcraft aircraft
• Robinson R22, R44, and R66 helicopters
• King Air turbine aircraft
• Cessna Caravan aircraft
• Other general aviation piston and turbine aircraft

The position includes inspections, scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and customer discrepancy diagnosis.

Responsibilities

• Perform and approve annual and progressive inspections
• Perform aircraft maintenance, repairs, and complex troubleshooting
• Diagnose airframe, engine, electrical, ignition, flight control, and related aircraft system discrepancies
• Ensure maintenance is performed in accordance with FAA regulations, manufacturer instructions, and approved data
• Review maintenance records and prepare accurate logbook entries
• Assist other technicians with troubleshooting, inspections, and maintenance procedures
• Supervise and inspect work performed by other technicians when appropriate
• Communicate aircraft discrepancies, recommended corrective actions, and repair plans with customers
• Maintain the high standards of workmanship and safety our company has established over nearly 50 years

Qualifications

Required:

• FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate
• Current FAA Inspection Authorization (IA)
• Strong hands-on experience maintaining small general aviation aircraft
• Strong reciprocating engine experience
• Experience with magnetos and aircraft ignition systems
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
• Working knowledge of aircraft electrical and charging systems
• Experience with airframe and flight control maintenance
• Thorough knowledge of FAA maintenance regulations, records, and documentation
• Ability to work independently and make sound maintenance decisions
• Ability to communicate professionally with aircraft owners and operators
• Ability to work effectively as part of a maintenance team
• Own basic set of aircraft mechanic’s hand tools

Robinson Helicopter experience is highly desirable and may affect starting pay.

Due to our current workload, we are only considering applicants who already have significant small general aviation maintenance experience. This position is not intended as an entry-level A&P or IA position.

Tools

Technicians are expected to provide their own basic hand tools used during normal daily maintenance. An extensive personal tool collection is not required.

Typical tools include:

• 1/4-inch ratchet and socket set
• Combination wrench set
• Screwdrivers
• Ratcheting screwdriver
• Safety wire pliers
• Other commonly used aircraft maintenance hand tools
• Portable toolbox or tool cart that can be moved to the aircraft being serviced

Experienced IA Technician Required

The technician hired for this position must be capable of working independently and taking a discrepancy from the customer’s initial description through final corrective action.

For example, a customer may describe an engine, airframe, electrical, or aircraft system problem they are experiencing. The technician should be able to use that information to troubleshoot and diagnose the discrepancy, determine an appropriate corrective action, communicate the findings and repair plan to the customer, and complete the repair.

In some cases, the IA technician may diagnose the problem and develop the corrective action while another technician performs part of the repair. The IA must be comfortable providing direction, supervising the work, and inspecting the completed maintenance while continuing to manage other work within the shop.
